ESL
Currently, Community High School does not have a complete ESL program. We have 20 open spaces available for ESL students. The vision for an ESL program at Community High School includes a unique experience compared to other ESL options offered within the MPS system. We would like to program ESL students in a reading, writing, grammar, and listening support class. We would also like to enroll ESL students in a history, math or science class that would include support from a translator. They would also include textbooks for these content classes specifically written for ESL students. The content area teachers would also get special training in teaching their content area to ESL students. The small school environment provides an environment to tailor curriculum and course offerings to meet the needs of our student body. Once we obtain our enrollment goals of 20 ESL students all of our ideas for this program can come into fruition.
