Advisory

Research has shown that students succeed when they connect with at least one adult in school.

Community High School offers full advisory coursework aiming to foster awareness of self and others. Our extensive curriculum promotes an internal “Code of Ethics” by expanding their awareness of their place in the world. Advisory is directly connected to service learning opportunites in the community.

Teachers facilitate student-led discussions, self-reflection pieces and self-exploration projects. Students write, debate, evaluate and analyze personal choices / habits in order to grow both internally and externally. Students garner valuable tools and skills that will not only help them inside the classroom, but most importantly, help them when they leave our building.

Topics of discussion include leadership qualities, decision making, goal setting, career exploration, test-taking strategies, relationship skills, self-management, college choices and self-esteem issues.
